Well it has been a long and crazy week! One cool thing is that we got to go to the temple for Halloween. We went to the Jordan River Temple this time. I saw Elder Carpenter there and one of the Elders from my MTC district. I love being in the temple! There is so much peace, and it is beautiful.
Something kind of funny that happened this week. I went on exchanges on Friday with one of the Sister Training Leaders. We were knocking on doors and she tells me that this next house has a couple that aren't very friendly. Then she says, "I've warned you they could be really mean. Do you want to do this one?" Of course I said yes and I knock on the door. This man answers and I explain that we are the sister missionaries (we never say for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because EVERYONE knows who we are...) and we are going around meeting the neighbors. Then he says, "Oh nice to meet you! I'm Brother Evans. I actually served my mission in Tennessee!" So much for the mean, anti couple we were expecting haha we were actually a street off from where she thought we were. That's what happens in Utah. If you knock on a random door, it's probably someone LDS :)
Life as a missionary in Salt Lake is very interesting. We are so well taken care of. We drive a 2014 Chevy Cruze, we live in the basement apartment of a member's home with our own entrance, a full kitchen, and a weight room. The members basically fight over feeding us. I have a feeling it's a little different than Maceio! Also, it snowed yesterday! Que loco!
The people here are awesome and we are trying to get them excited about missionary work. I know that this Gospel brings so much peace and hope, and I love sharing it with others. Don't be afraid to open your mouth. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland promised that no invitation extended with love would ever offend.
If you are looking for something great to listen to this week, I recommend the talk "Why 1820" by Hyrum Smith (no, not THAT Hyrum Smith ;)) It's fantastic.
My new favorite scripture is Ester 4:14. It's when Mordecai is trying to convice Ester to go in to the king and try to save the Jews. He says, "...and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" I know that God is mindful of each of us and has put us exactly where we are for a reason. There are no coincidences. We each have a purpose, and are so important to our Heavenly Father. I love all of you and have appreciated the influence you have had on me. I hope you all have a great week!
Love,
Sister Lopez
